LINKS TO SLACK CHANNELS

There are several Slack channels that we use to communicate with families. Each channel is created to target a specific group or section. For example, there is a channel for Winds and Brass, one for Guard, and a channel for Percussion. It is recommended you subscribe to the channel your student is a participant. This is often the quickest way to deliver information and to get answers to questions specific to your section. The links to the Slack channels are as follows:

There are plenty of volunteer positions still open for this Friday's football game against Apex Friendship. Volunteering at football games is a great way to work with experienced volunteers and learn the ropes for the upcoming competition season. Click here to see the positions still available.

GHR TAILGATE

Join other GHR band families to celebrate the start of the marching band season at the first home HSHS football game - Friday, August 22nd against Panther Creek.  This is a great opportunity for new band families to meet each other, and have someone to sit with at the football game. 

When you approach the main entrance of the stadium, go towards the left and we will be gathering in the area between the mobile units and the stadium.  Please see the SUG here and sign up for food items to bring.  When RSVPing, do not include your marching student in the headcount, as they will be warming up and with the band, and will not be attending the tailgate. Families should BRING YOUR OWN BEVERAGES, and folding chairs or blankets (there are a few picnic tables).  

We also need volunteers to help set up (before) and clean up (after) the potluck. The tailgate will end by 6:30pm so we can get cleaned up and into the stadium to catch the pre-game festivities!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: If you bring containers and you want them back, you will need to be responsible for those containers when we're done and moving into the stands.

BONUS: If you bring your offerings in a way that the leftovers can easily be set aside for the kids when they have their dinner during the 3rd quarter, that will make the clean up MUCH easier.

Dear Golden Hawks Band Families,

The marching band has had a great two weeks of camp. Our first movement is on the field and music and guard routines have been learned. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who have helped the camp to run smoothly and provide delicious meals.

We are adjusting our start time for winds to 8 am next week, however, there will not be a penalty for those who are unable to arrive until the previously scheduled time. We are aware of the school schedule changes and parking pass distribution taking place during our camps. I ask that students be in lines before the beginning times so as not to miss a lot of camp. The rest of the schedule is the same. All students are to eat or provide lunch. Dinner will be served on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. No meals served on Thursday.

Camp Schedule August 11-14:

Winds

M, T, W - 8 am - 8 pm* - (change; percussion arrive normal time)

Th - 5-8 pm

Percussion

M, T, W - 9-8 pm

Th - 5-8 pm

Guard

1-8 pm

A few reminders -

Appointments and other reasons for missing rehearsals or performances should be communicated to Mr. Biasi and the guard or percussion director in writing from a parent/guardian rather than a student. Students are allowed and expected to call the band office phone number when they are late. The expectation is that students arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the start time. Our start and end times refer to rehearsals, not when students are ready to be picked up. In general, it takes 20-30 minutes after the rehearsal ends for students to return from the practice field and vacate the building. If we are rehearsing inside, usually this time window is shorter.

Financial statements were sent out the last week of July. The $200 deposit is now past due. August 1 payments are due. If you have any questions or need financial assistance, please reach out to the treasurers at hshsbandtreasurer@gmail.com.

Car Wash at Acme Pizza on July 19, 2025 10am - 2pm

We are still in need of volunteers (parents and students) to work the car wash this Saturday. If you are available, please sign up here.

CBC Fundraiser on July 26, 2025 11am - 8pm

Carolina Brewing Company has graciously asked us to sell food at their 30th anniversary party, with 100% of the food profits going to the band program. There will be live music and they are expecting a big crowd! We are still in need of parent and student volunteers for the day to cook and sell food. If you are available, please sign up here.


Parent Q&A Session - July 31 7pm - 8pm (Optional)

The Boosters will host a Parent Q&A Session for any new or returning parents who might have questions about marching band. This is optional and will be the last hour of rehearsal on July 31st, in the Media Center at HSHS. Feel free to stop by to ask questions or just say 'hi'!
